Dream Interpretation
Does anybody know how to interpret dreams? I had a very vivid dream last night. My husband, my son and I were carrying a huge white python. We were carrying it for a long time while walking around town, the beach, city center. Finally we got home and placed the white python in our bath tub.
Any clues what that means?

Oooh, this is fun, one can put so many different interpretations on dreams! Perhaps the white python, so obvious, so....large...is like the proverbial elephant in the living room, that huge obvious intrusive thing that everybody is trying very hard to ignore. This couldn't have to do with Iraq, could it? That big frigging monster that people trash you about every time you try to talk about it? I mean, it really is a huge problem, but when you discuss it people get uncomfortable, they'd really prefer it if you didn't draw their attention to it, don't you have any nice stories? Can't you just stuff it in your bathtub or something so we don't have to look at it?

Now you get a taste of what it is like to be an Iraqi living in the west. I remember working with an American woman I work with, for several months we communicated over phone and email. Finally I got the chance to meet he in person while on a trip to the US. We were sitting in a coffee shop chatting and she asked me

This seems like some kind of procession or parade. It reminds me of an annual religious parade somewhere in Europe, which I saw a little bit about on TV. There was a statue of a Roman Catholic saint covered with live slithering snakes, and the faithful were carrying it through the city. Come to think of it, some of the folks were wearing robes.
I don't know what snakes mean to you. My wife is very frightened of them and would never even dream of touching one, let alone carry one. We've never seen a white snake nor a python. We see the eastern diamondback rattlesnake often, and the coral snake a few times, and the more common black and brown snakes around our home (outside).
On TV I've seen Iraqis parade in Iraq. These are usually Shiites hitting their heads with swords until they bleed, or Sunnis carrying pictures of Saddam, or Shiites carrying pictures of Sistani or the Mullah of the Month.
Since you are a 'normal' Iraqi, you parading a white python is like parading a picture of a Big Man of Iraq. But you would never parade his picture. You think he is a snake, and you don't like him. This is not a parade of support, but a parade of victory over this Big Man. The snake is Saddam, and you and your family are celebrating Iraq's victory over Saddam.
You'll have to help me with the bathtub. I've not seen anything on American TV about Iraqis (normal or otherwise) and their bathtubs. However, if I dreamed that my wife carried a big white python into our home, I guess the bathtub would be a good a place as any to put it just to end the stupid dream.

We've been busy. I am sure in her provincial way she was trying to comliment you.
As for the snake. Were you trying to save it. Perhaps it is compassion. Were you trying to get rid of it, perhaps it is fear. Have you ever seen a white python? Perhaps it is merely a random memory unfolding.

My brother had an experience similar to yours with the American "lady" when he was out of the US on vacation. A gentleman from the UK simply could not believe that my brother was American. The guy, at least according to my brother, actually (and repeatedly) invited my brother to visit, saying that he would be "proud" to call my brother a friend. Quite a compliment - meant sincerely and with the best of intentions - but very revealing. My brother gathered from the experience that this guy thought all Americans were arrogant, disrespectful, self absorbed SOB's, and he was just over come by the realization that there was at least one (or two counting my brother's companion) American who was not. The UK guy thought that my brother must have been Canadian, if you can imagine. :) He doesn't know Canadians like I do! Eh?

Who knows, isn't python a programming language to do with share ware? Who knows, it could mean anything at all.
I'm a longtime believer that the dreamer can interpret the dream better then anyone else. It's a private message from your own brain for you.
Some say dream symbology is specific and often very literal. So it's interesting that your dream concerned specifically a python, a white one, family members sharing the carrying for a long time, and a bath-ahem-tub.
Or, you could think about parts of the dream you didn't tell us as much about about (the town, beach and city centre) - how they work with your own personal symbology (or other recurring dream symbols you might have).
I had a dream about a rainbow serpent and a river of light once, it made quite an impact on me. I dreamt it after I'd been reading the theory of relativity and I think my mind had taken liberties with Einstein and was subverting relativism - with local mysticism. Which doesn't really mean anything to anyone else but like your dream I felt compelled to tell someone.

Im a muslim and so looking for dream interpretaions I feel as though I should get a muslim opinion as i believe it would be the only opinion that i should need,(not because im small minded i truly believe in my faith) but when you are told different interpretations of dreams by different scholars sometimes their interpretations are completly different and then i would have doubt in who to believe.
Although i only use the interpretations as guidelines to make my own mind up cos only you can truly translate your own dream. But am i wrong not to look at the opinions of non muslim scholars what do you guys think.

I have heard countless times that a snake, a turtle, a cat, mice, and ants are signs of bad people in a dream. So what it could mean is that there is a woman your wife likes very much (since she is holding it) and since it's white it means that the woman seems to be a nice person...but being a snake this means that this woman wishes or wants to harm you or your family, wallahu a3lam. I would suggest you look it up in a muslim dream interpretation book. Salam.

well white is a good thing. walking around the city is like your trying to show the people of the city what to do and what you've found. now the snake itself may refer to two things: 1) either the snake which the prophet (SAAWS) warned about in the grave. if this be the case you will probably commit to something that will remove all the stuff that might allow you to encounter him when you die.
2) that is one meaning, so if the snake refers to "ha'yaton min dunya" then it is danger or an enemy that you will be able to get rid of as well....
the only thing that i do not like is the bathtub in the dream.... if you saw it as part of the whole bathroom thats not a good thing because its "bait al najasa" if you saw just the bathtub then maybe your whole dream is not bad after all, cause it may just mean "tahara".

I don't know why you guys believe that a snake is symbol of bad events.
The snake was a symbol of Wisdom. It changed completely after the years because of religion especially the torah.
please go to the sources and learn a little more about the snake symbol which is purity and wisdom.

A snake usually means an enemy, but it also depends on the size and colour. maybe your dream means that you are walking around with an enemy whom you are even inviting in the house. Allah knows best.

I admire the way you graciously ignored the comments made on this post which I must say thoroughly disgusted me.
If people want to check out a book on dream interpretation, I think that Ibn Sireen is good. I haven't read any other books on this subject, but his reasons and interpretations are so well backed up and so insightful, I never tried to look elsewhere. I don't know if they make an English version, but I wish they would as it requires too much knowledge of the Arabic language (references from the Quran, Sunnah and even ancient arabic poetry) for it to be translated in a practical way.
It's SO freakin' weird that someone mentioned a dream about teeth falling out.. I had the exact same dream a couple of nights ago, and tonight my sister had the EXACT same one! Apparently it means the death of a family member (God forbid); if the tooth came from the upper jaw they're from the father's side, and if it's from the lower jaw, the mother's side (both my sis and my dream included lower jaw teeth! :-s). However, a lot of factors affect the meaning of a dream, and the only thing that I keep remembering to comfort myself anyways is that death is the one inevitable thing in life, so you don't need to dream about it to know it's going to happen.
Snake means an enemy, white is a good color though - I think it would mean that you have a hypocrite (munafiq) befriending your family, w'Allahu A'lam.

iv recently had to dreams close to each other about angels well i dont even know if they were dreams or real . in the first i was sleeping and somebody stroked my hand it felt so unbelievabley real. the evening before i felt this i cryed in my prayers which is ver uncommon i was very emotional and felt so close to allah while i was praying.
in the second dream i saw an angel come to me and i was given the chance to ask for anything i wanted. before this dream i was reading an article about dua and its power. in the dream it felt like i had the chance to ask for anything

what i think that this dream is trying to say is that, you are trying to assimilate your family and your self into a white culture or something, in the end the w8 of the python will bring you all down and destroy you and your family, even though the python looks cool rememeber it has fangs

here is a tip for easy dream interpretation : if you have trouble remembering your dreams, keep a notepad next to your bed and when you wake up in the morning, write down what you remember as fast as possible, as you get into the habit, you will remember in more detail and you will remember all your dreams.
