Iraqi Constitution
I read the new proposed Iraqi constitution. Here is an English translation. I think it is pretty good. It gives full rights to minorities. Keeps the 25% of women seats in the parliament. True, it mentions Islam but only in a minor way. I would vote for it.
What many seem to forget, is that the old Iraqi constitution was pretty good as well. In fact was the most progressive constitutions in the middle east. The problem was in the application of it.
Lets hope that this time we do a more faithful job of applying the constitution.
My heart is broken with all the horrid news coming from Iraq and Louisiana, US over the past two days. Words of sympathy seem tart and cheap but words is all I have to offer. I can only pray that things will get better in the near future in both places.
I hope that people find the strength to deal with the difficulties.

10:13 PMI know, all I can do is look at the beads hanging on my wall from New Orleans - and now it's all emptied out.
I think people will go back though - where else can they go?
(You know I think that constitution is a rort !!! ^-^ )

What do you think of the Toronto Globe and Mail piece, "The Iraqi constitution's downside for women," posted by Juan Cole (www.juancole.com) on Sept. 2?

I don't get it! There are two versions of the destitution in ARABIC. One that begins "We the peoples of Iraq..." and the other "We the people of the valley of the two rivers where prophets were born...yadayadayada..."
Which one is it?
The latter means you aren't constitutionally an Iraqi or have to call yourself that. It opens a can of worms.

مشتت فكـــريآ
True True, Especially for those out the border lines.
To live as Iraqi, which is hard due to recent situations in the Two Rivers Land, or to live as expatriate in his emigration land(S) that is impossible with relatives in Iraq?
To BE or Not To Be... Iraqi is the Question.
