Visually creative.
The whole color thing was compelling

I hated it.
The movie Sin City.

It's the content.

The content.
The content.
The content.

I have a confession to make. I am a book addict, I love books. Here are some of my favorite books that I would like to share with the rest of you.

My favorite arabic novel is "Cities of Salt" by Abed Al Rahman Muneef.
مدن الملح - للكاتب عبد الرحمان منيف

I love that novel so much that I read it both in arabic and translated english and enjoyed both because the English translation is of a high quality. The story is a fictional account of modern Saudi history. It is a sharp, witty and humorous. It criticizes that society strongly yet makes you fall in love with it. When I finished reading the novel I felt a great longing to go live in the desert. It's a great shame that the author was stripped of his Saudi citizenship and forced to live in exile.

The Old Social Classes and the Revolutionary Movements of Iraq
By Hanna Batatu
I consider this book the bible and ultimate source of information about modern history of Iraq. It is academic and slightly boring to read but it well worth the effort if you want to understand the history of iraq. It has been translated to arabic but I only read it in English.

Guests of the Sheik - Anthropology of an Iraqi Village by Elizabeth fernea
Short, very readable and touching story of an American woman who lives in an Iraqi village in the south of Iraq in the 50's because of her anthropologist husband.

Women of Sand and Myrrh
By Hannan al Shaykh
Stories about women in the middle east. Very approachable. For some reason I found this book very touching. I could relate to all the characters in the stories. I also have read both the english and arabic. It was one of the books that my husband lent me from his library when I first met him and so this book has a special sentimental value to me.

Gaza Pullout

15.8.05

Instead of reading the garbage on the news about the "poor" settlers being displaced from Gaza. I recommend that you read this excellent article instead.

Here is a short of qoute

How many realise that each settler family is due to receive an average of several hundred thousand dollars as "compensation"? How many US taxpayers realise that they, not the Israelis, are going to be covering most of the costs for this?

And who, for a moment, pauses to reflect on whether
Palestinians - some of whom have been deprived of their homes and livelihood for
decades - will receive restitution for their own suffering?

I love you.
and I wish I could forget about you.
I forget about you,
but then I forget about your cruel treatment of me.
I go back to missing you

Garbage on the News

11.8.05
Everyday, I turn on the radio and there it is, an interview with an Israeli settler crying about leaving his/her home in the Gaza strip.

Given the fact that there are only 8 thousand Israeli settlers in the Gaza strip, I estimate that every single one of them had been interviewed by a major media outlet in north America about seven times already.

There are 1.5 million Palestinians living in Gaza strip, when is the last time you heard an interview with one of them?

House demolitions,
Extra judicial killings,
kids being shot,
tanks on the streets,

But no interviews with them, their pain doesn't matter. Yet another example of the racism of North American media.

1.5 million have been living under siege for 38 years to serve the interests of 5 thousand settlers .... Nobody bothers to mention the basic facts.

Notice how most of the settlers speak English just perfectly. No accent. That is because, a large number of them are from the US or Canada. And these are more fanatical and blood thirsty than any Israeli.

"U.S. sends all it's garbage to us", said late Israeli prime minister Itzhak Rabin when he was referring the the settlers. He forgot to mention that in turn the Israeli shifted the garbage to the occupied territories for the Palestinians to deal with.

I say it is about time to send the garbage into Israel proper and out of the occupied territories.

--------------------------
Last week we heard the story of the fanatical Israeli soldier who rode a bus into Palestinian village of Shafa-Amr and shot four people dead and injured others.

All media coverage of the event, was careful to clarify that the man was an extremist fanatical, who belonged to a political party that is illegal inside Israel and is followed by a small minority of the Israeli public. Careful attention was made to distinguish between the actions of one man and the population of a whole country and a whole religion.

Jewish Terrorist ... was never used .... except by Sharon the current prime minister of Israel .... and even that was not covered widely.

I have to hand it the Israeli prime ministers, past and present. They certainly don't mince words.

I think the actions of the media in that case was good and honorable and measured .... too bad they follow a different standard when it applies to Muslims.

Racism?
Intentional?
Unintentional?
Ignorance?

Pffffffffffffft.

If I was Willy Wonka and Anonymous was on tour in my chocolate factory I would turn her into a giant chocolate flavored waffle and shoot it into outer space to see if aliens really do exist.
